Pickleball – Rules

COURT RULES

  • Courts must be booked in advance.
  • Court times are booked in 1-hour intervals, with a 2-hour maximum.
  • If courts are available after your time slot, you may extend your court time with the Pro Shop.
  • Players must check into the Pro Shop and pay for the court time prior to play.
  • Children under 12 must be accompanied/supervised by an adult (18+).
  • NO ALCOHOL may be brought to the courts or premises as per our AGLC license.
  • Beverages may be purchased from the clubhouse (coolers provided) or from the Beverage Cart during it’s rounds.

PICKLEBALL RULES

  • Serve underhand, ball hit below the waist, moving upwards (not sidearm and definitely not overhand).
  • The team member standing on the right, always has first serve.
  • The serve must clear the Kitchen line (the light blue, no-volley zone).
  • If the serve touches the Kitchen front line, the ball is considered “out” and is a fault.
  • If the serve touches any other line (sideline, mid court line or the back line) it is “in”.
  • AFTER the serve, if the ball touches the front Kitchen line (or any other line), it is considered “in”.
  • A two-bounce rule is in effect off the serve – the ball MUST bounce once on each side before it can be volleyed.
  • The server continues to serve until a fault, alternating service courts.
  • Players are responsible for calling the lines on their end of the court (“in or “out”).
  • No volleying is allowed in the Kitchen (light blue, no-volley zone). Volley means hitting the ball before it touches the ground.
  • You lose the point if your momentum carries you into the Kitchen after a volley.
  • You may enter the Kitchen to play a ball that bounces in the Kitchen. You may enter the Kitchen before the ball hits the ground. You may reach and volley overtop of the Kitchen, provided your feet don’t enter the Kitchen or touch the front Kitchen line.
  • If your serve hits the non-receiving opponent, you win the point. Heads up! That’s called a Dirty Nelson… it is your point, but, if intended, it is d-i-r-t-y.
  • If a ball is going out of bounds – leave it! If you catch it before it hits the ground, you lose the point. Even if you call it ‘out’. Let it play out.
  • Only the serving team can make points.
  • Games to 11 points. Must win by 2.
